Energy Healing to Break Out of Your Funk

We’ve come a long way since we first heard the words COVID-19 a few years ago, but the emotional scars of living through such a traumatic moment tend to stick with us.

In 2020, many of us feared we’d lose loved ones, felt alone or isolated for the first time, underwent dramatic shifts to the routines that stabilized us, or spent more uninterrupted time with our families and partners than ever before. And while that’s not all bad, enduring unprecedented changes to the way we live often exacerbates underlying emotional issues we may not have noticed before. At the same time, facing a global pandemic confronted us with the fear of the unknown, so even the most optimistic people had a hard time coping.

Yes, we’ve been through a lot. And if you feel like you’ve been in a bit of a funk since, you are so not alone. As a healer and holistic health practitioner, every day I see new clients who tell me, “I should be over this by now.” But the truth is that we can’t just overcome traumatic moments (pandemic-related or not) and the emotional repercussions they leave behind. Instead, we have to process them. And that’s what I’ve helped people do in hundreds of sessions through my work as a healer.

Maybe you’ve heard of energy healing or energy work on social media, where it’s getting lots of attention lately, but there are many types. The modality that I practice focuses on locating pain or trauma in the body and allowing those traumatic memories or feelings to show up so we can process them. A lot of the time, the things that come up for my clients are issues they didn’t even realize they were struggling with.

But that makes a lot of sense since most of us don’t want to sit with the tough things we’ve been through—it’s really hard and can hurt. Still, if you don’t acknowledge these issues or feelings, you’re denying yourself an opportunity to sense more joy and peace in everyday life, live with a little more ease, and get closer to self-acceptance.

That’s why the energy healing work that I do is about honoring the pain. When we allow ourselves to accept those uncomfortable (or even terrifying) emotions, we can get back to a more natural state of being.

During a session, which can be virtual or in person, I’ll talk a bit about what’s going on with you physically or mentally and guide you into a meditative state. From there, I use a series of focused attention or intention exercises, breathing techniques, visualizations, and engage other senses (depending on your needs and goals). It’s a completely touch-free process, but I’ll use my hands to manipulate your energetic field, allowing it to flow more efficiently.

People often feel a lightness after one session, which I believe is a side effect of acknowledging their emotions and returning to a natural, regulated state of being. Some clients also say they can think better and take action more effectively (like setting boundaries). You might also have more energy to take care of yourself physically and emotionally—and you can do it all without the guilt. Couldn’t we all use more of that?
