When Therapy Makes Me Worse!

Interview with Dr. Judith Kennedy, author, psychotherapist, speaker, trainer, teacher, minister. Dr. Kennedy has decades of training and experience in mental health, energy healing, facilitating the spiritual journey, and speaking.

Side note of my random aha moment: Later during the video we talk about learning to love the little one inside which is based on the work of Dr. Carl Jung who believed that we have many different parts within ourselves that we need to befriend and be at peace with, in order to be a whole integrated human being.

I personally experienced a few great therapists in recovering from PTSD and depression.
I also experienced one I labeled the bobble-head therapist who clearly had no interest in what I was saying she just nodded her head up and down for an hour telling me I could be anything I wanted…even an NBA basketball player.
Clearly we didn’t connect at all.

Healing happens when we connect.
ย
As Judith indicates it takes tremendous courage for a person to reach out and come to therapy so the focus should be on the patient and helping them to better navigate their lives.
ย
Her advice is to make sure you feel a connection to the therapist and do not stay if donโ€™t. Itโ€™s often hard to walk away because weโ€™ve been trained to believe that other people are the experts. That goes for clergy, doctors, police officers, etc.
Judith sees her job as a therapist is to hold the best vision of who they are so the person can walk toward it.

๐Ÿ’– INNER CHILD WORK (AKA HEALING THE HEART)
Disregarding the inner child within can cause so much painโ€ฆit may be the very essence of who we really are. We must integrate that part of ourselves to be a whole person.

Parents do their best but weโ€™ve all received messages that we arenโ€™t good enough or donโ€™t measure up.

We need to heal that inner wounded part of ourselves and accept it because that inner child is going to be an integral part of who we are and our ability to embrace life, have fun and be joyful.

There is so much wounding around this in our society! We create a belief that If I could just obey/follow the rules my parents will love me.

The basic need of every child is to have the approval of their parents ~ which when we are children, our parents or caregivers (teachers, priests, pastors, family, friends, etc.) are our gods.

So much goodness in the video! So grateful for your wisdom โœจโœจโœจ
