It’s Not Always about Bravery or Courage

“There is always light, if only we’re brave enough to see it…” (Part of the poem read by the poet Amanda Gorman during the Presidential Inauguration.)

The poem was beautiful. I felt really good hearing her speak and I agree with her.

And yet, there was something in me that cringed when I heard it.

Courage & bravery are not always the issue.

BodyTalk is the first energy medicine modality that I studied after I discovered how much it helped me in my own life to reduce anxiety and depression symptoms. To become a practitioner, I had to get a 90% on both the written and oral practical exams. The information was all new to me as I had never studied the body before (my background is in business & computers.) Vomer, zygoma, pineal, integumentary system, etc. Whew! But I learned the information, completed the required 50+ sessions and I was completely confident in everything I learned. I knew I was doing the right thing. Everything felt good.

Until I got on the plane to go take my exam. Everything changed.

My throat started to swell shut the minute I sat down. My nervous system was buzzing during the entire trip.

Lack of courage was not the problem. This was not something I could talk myself out of (believe me I tried!) My body experienced a major physical response to the perceived danger.  It doesn’t matter (logically) that there was no inherent danger. The symptoms I experienced were a signal of unresolved issues held within my body at that point in time. Mind over matter did not work.

As old unresolved issues are addressed, triggers that cause the symptoms can decrease. It’s like clearing clutter out of a home and there is a feeling of peace. That’s what can happen when we clear out the clutter energetically within the body.

Nervousness, excitement, a bit of anxiety are probably normal when trying something new. Living in a state of being of anxiety/depression is not. It is amazing though how much a person can accomplish even while living in that state of being. I passed both exams with 100% even while my body was shutting down and buzzing. However, we can only stay in that state of being for so long…the body can only handle so much.

💃 For long term relief we must address the root issues causing the symptoms. When we work at the subtle, energetic level including beliefs, stuck emotions, painful memories, etc. we do not have to dig up the past to feel relief.
