Depression – It’s a Heart Issue

…it was like living in a deep, dark, pit of despair.

That is how I once described my experience of depression to someone. The person’s response was: “It was not!”

If you are experiencing anxiety and/or depression having a person contradict your experience can make you doubt yourself even more. Especially if this person is someone that you trust. Good support is essential as you recover from anxiety & depression. It is a process. A journey. Recovery does not happen overnight, but it can happen.

I saw a comment from a lady who was giving her opinion on how to treat anxiety & depression. She wrote “seeing a PROFESSIONAL is the answer this is NOT a “do it yourself” project!”

I totally disagree with her. My response to her was that if you get the wrong professional it is horrible, and they can do more harm than good. Her response to me was “educated choices.” I felt like I was in grade school again. 🌞 Did not! Did too! Did not! Did too!

A “professional”. A person who gets a degree and adds some initials behind their name, does not make them qualified to help someone with anxiety & depression. Does the person have compassion for people or are they trying to “fix” people? Have they worked on their own issues or do they project their issues onto other people? Do they treat others with respect? Good support is available but is not guaranteed just because someone falls in the “professional” category.

Anxiety & depression need to be seen and treated as heart issues not mental health issues that need to be “fixed.” The heart is so much more than just a physical heart pumping blood. We say things like:

“She gave it all her heart.”
“I worked at it with all my heart.”
“My heart is broken.”

Sometimes referred to as the metaphorical heart. That is the part of us that needs attention when we experience symptoms of anxiety & depression. The symptoms are the body’s way of telling us that something is out of whack ~ pay attention to me!!!

We are all born unique. Unique fingerprints. Unique personalities. When you look at yourself:

💎 Can you appreciate how unique you are?

💎 Can you see how precious you are?

💎 Can you see and appreciate how unique someone else is and let them live their life without trying to change them or fix them?

Approaching anxiety & depression IS a “do it yourself” job. You may seek a counselor or therapist to get advice and listen to their expert opinion.

They may be able to help you see yourself in a new light, but as an adult:

⚡ Nobody has the power to MAKE you see your own preciousness and uniqueness.

⚡ Nobody can MAKE you see that you are valuable.

That is an inside job. For long term relief of anxiety & depression symptoms the issues need to be addressed at the subtle level…the heart level.
